Leicester City fans have always been used to rumours of their top players being wanted by ‘bigger’ clubs but it never becomes easier to see the best talents being lured away.
Over recent years the club have seen the likes of N’Golo Kante, Harry Maguire, Riyad Mahrez and Danny Drinkwater leave the club in big money moves with all being disappointing to see, although on different levels.
Now it is time for the rumours to be reignited that Ben Chilwell will be the next big name out of the club. These rumours aren’t new, only last close season the rumours were rife that Manchester City were planning a big money raid for the England International left back.
Across the press and media there are numerous reports that Chilwell is the number 1 transfer target for Chelsea this summer and they are planning a big money raid. The Mirror have even reported Chilwell has told manager Brendan Rodgers that he wants to leave the club although friends close to Chilwell, according to that report anyway, deny that claim.
Media reports suggest a bid of £65m are expected from Chelsea for Chilwell but one thing is for sure, the club don’t let their players leave without getting the maximum fee. You only have to look at the £80m they got from Manchester United for Harry Maguire. With Chilwell’s contract lasting until 2024 at the moment you would expect Leicester City to be looking at a transfer fee closer to the Maguire fee with some reports claiming the club have him valued at £85m.
The rumours have also been a big talking point among Leicester fans and it seems to have split the fans opinion. In this thread at Foxes Talk there are numerous differing opinions, as you would expect to be fair. Some claiming Chilwell has been below par this season and others showing disappointment of looking like the club is still viewed as a ‘selling club’, among many other opinions.
Some of the bookies are also taking an interest in this with Betfair offering a betting market. They currently are offering odds of 8/11 that Chilwell will sign for Chelsea in the next transfer window. You might want to check out online-bookies.org.uk if any other bookmakers start showing an interest in offering competitive odds around Chilwell’s future.
However with the season still not even close to being complete due to the global pandemic it will be an interesting few months and as football fans know, anything can happen, and it usually does. We will keep you informed though and update as time moves on and hopefully bring you any Leicester City news as and when it happens.
