Conor Hourihane has left Leicester City after less than six months as assistant manager. The club confirmed the departure of the men's first team assistant manager on Thursday.
Manager Russell Martin said the decision came after a conversation where Hourihane expressed his wish to become a manager again. "We thank Conor for his contribution during his time with us and wish him well for the future," Leicester City said in a statement. Martin praised the 35-year-old's coaching potential, stating Hourihane will be brilliant at managing.
Hourihane, who previously managed Barnsley for 14 months, joined as Martin's number two in June. He was open about wanting to learn and prepare for a future managerial role. Steve Morison will provide additional coaching support alongside his duties as loans manager, while the existing staff of Andy King, Tom Weal and Rhys Owen continue to support Martin.
The change comes with Leicester City 10th in League One, having taken 19 points from their opening 13 games, a record of five wins, four draws and four losses. The team has scored 22 goals and conceded 19, leaving them ten points behind the league leaders Huddersfield. Their recent form has been strong, with three wins and a draw from their last five matches. This run includes a 2-2 draw with Stevenage on 31 October, where Samuel Charles Braybrooke and K. Doyle scored, and a 3-0 victory over Wigan on 27 October featuring a brace from Emil Riis Jakobsen, who is the club's top scorer this season with six goals. They face a quick test of their stability with a home game against seventh-placed Bradford on Saturday 14 November.
