Martin has repeatedly said the centre-back position needs strengthening. With no natural replacement for Harry Souttar or Caleb Okoli, the squad lacks competition and depth in the heart of the defence. “We need two centre-backs to provide genuine competition and depth behind Souttar and Okoli,” Martin told reporters.

The match also highlighted how the Foxes’ defensive uncertainty can slow their build-up play. Martin wants his defenders comfortable taking possession, drawing pressure and progressing play, but the lack of confidence when pressed can hinder the entire attacking structure.
