Transfer Details
Leicester City have agreed a £2.1m fee for 19-year-old Finnish centre-back Ilari Kangasniemi of FC Inter. The deal was confirmed by Finnish outlet Yle and the player is expected to travel to England on Monday for his medical and to sign the contract at the King Power Stadium.
Player Profile
Kangasniemi, a product of the Inter Milan youth academy, has emerged as a standout in Finland’s Veikkausliiga. He stands 6ft 6in and has been a key figure in FC Inter’s defence, helping the club keep 11 clean sheets in 24 matches during the 2025/26 season. He has also faced European opposition in the UEFA Conference League qualifying rounds, featuring in wins over FK Sarajevo, Istanbul Basaksehir and FC Vaduz.
Impact on Leicester
Leicester’s back line is under pressure: Ben Nelson is out with an ACL injury, Wout Faes is expected to leave, and Harry Souttar and Caleb Okoli have started the season poorly amid transfer speculation. Kangasniemi’s arrival could provide immediate depth and a long-term solution, though the club may need to give him time to adapt to the pace and physicality of English football.
The club’s medical team will assess Kangasniemi on Monday, after which he will officially join the squad for the 2026/27 campaign.
