Leicester City have agreed a deal to sign Brighton winger Tommy Watson on loan, according to reports. The 20-year-old left winger has struggled for consistent first-team chances under Fabian Hurzeler, making just 10 appearances for the Seagulls. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Millwall in the Championship.
Watson is a right-footed winger who predominantly plays off the left. Leicester are short in that position with Stephy Mavididi the club's only natural senior left-wing option after Jeremy Monga's departure.
Attacking reinforcements remain Leicester's priority in the transfer window after signing Conor Chaplin, Alex McCarthy and Christian McFarlane. Speaking during last week's training camp in Spain, Martin admitted he wanted more firepower across his frontline.
“The topline, both wide positions and a number nine, I think it’s really clear,” the City boss said when asked about his priorities. “We have really good competition for places in the back four and midfield, we’ve got a lot of good football players. So the top line right now, we need to strengthen that and add to that and we will, but it has to be the right ones.
“Then we need to make sure we’re ready to react to other people if and when they go. If they are defenders or midfielders, we need to be ready to react to that.”
Leicester City are currently 23rd in the Championship, with 46 points from 46 games, and are 49 points behind leaders Coventry. They have scored 58 goals and conceded 68 this season.
