Leicester City's star player Abdul Fatawu failed to make a positive impact in Ghana's 1-1 draw with Wales on Tuesday night. The City winger was hooked at half-time, replaced by Lyon's Ernest Nuamah. Fatawu struggled to get the best of Coventry City left-back Jay DaSilva, while Nuamah used his blistering pace to drive at Wales and assist Caleb Yirenkyi's opener. The game was the first of a minimum of four for Fatawu to put himself in the shop window this summer. Ghana will play in Group L against Panama, England, and Croatia over the next month, with the goal to progress to the knockout stages. Fatawu is City's most valuable asset, according to transfermarkt.com, at around €20m (£17.2m). Premier League teams are reportedly showing interest in the 22-year-old with Coventry City, Everton, Bournemouth, Sunderland, and Ipswich Town all mentioned as potential moves. In the Championship, the forward scored nine goals and registered eight assists in 44 league games, but failed to keep City in the league. He returned from a minor knock at the end of February and went on to play 12 of the remaining 13 games, scoring just one. The World Cup is a golden opportunity for the former-Sporting CP star to attract interest from Europe's top teams. But now, the City star faces the possibility of dropping to the bench for the first game of the tournament on June 18. Calls for Nuamah to start on the right of Querioz's attack have grown after the clash in Wales. Ghanaian publication 'Pulse' gave Fatawu a 5.5 in their player ratings and one fan claimed a 'half-fit' Nuamah was better than a fully fit Fatawu. For City, raised funds via player sales is a must following their relegation to League One. Fatawu is one player who will rightfully feel his ability reflects playing above that level. Interest in the winger is only a positive thing for the football club, with a bidding war the best-case scenario to get the best fee. A positive World Cup will only help both the player and City.
