Leicester City come back from a week in Southern Spain in a better place than they were before. Russell Martin's men continued to step-up their preparations for the 2026/27 season with two games during their week away.
What happened?
The Foxes beat second division side Cadiz 1-0 in Algeciras on Wednesday night before holding La Liga newcomers Malaga 3-3 in the heat at the Banus Football Centre over the weekend.
Pre-Season Progress
Inbetween the two games, players and staff spent quality time on the training pitch, but also in and around the hotel base. The focus of the trip was on the football side of things, but also continuing to build an unrecognisable bond between players within the group.
Training Sessions
Thursday was a day-off for Spain and the players used the time well. Some took to the 18-hole golf course on site, others spent time just relaxing after a tough few weeks of pre-season. Martin, who has made a conscious effort to get to know his players and support staff, even played some of his younger players at table tennis.
The next day, training recommenced and it was a chance to watch them in action. Portuguese second division side U.D Leiria were also at the hotel and their drills consisted of 'organised chaos', compared to more structured approach with City. With the 2026/27 Championship season approaching, Leicester City is looking to improve on their 23rd place finish in the 2025 table, where they earned 46 points from 46 games, scoring 58 goals and conceding 68, and were 49 points behind leaders Coventry.
What comes next?
The Foxes will continue their pre-season preparations, looking to build on the progress made in Spain, as they aim to make a stronger push in the upcoming season.
