Leicester City lost 2-1 to Stevenage in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night. The defeat came despite the Foxes dominating possession and creating numerous chances at Broadhall Way.

Wanya Marcal, a former Leicester player, opened the scoring for the hosts in the 24th minute. O. Sanderson doubled Stevenage's lead just before the hour mark, capitalising on a counter-attack. Emil Riis Jakobsen pulled a goal back for Leicester in the 69th minute, finishing from an assist by Harry Souttar, but a late equaliser proved elusive.

Manager Russell Martin made five changes to his lineup, fielding a 4-4-1-1 formation with several younger players. Franco Ravizzoli started in goal, with a back four of Olabade Aluko, Christian McFarlane, Harry Souttar and Woyo Coulibaly. At halftime, Luke Thomas replaced Aluko, and further changes saw Emil Riis Jakobsen, Bobby Reid and William Thomas-Alves introduced just after the hour.

"Why not rest Sammy Braybrooke, who looked uninspired and tired, not really setting the pace and tempo needed," Martin said after the match, explaining his selection.

Leicester had possession and registered shots, but only four were on target. Stevenage, with just of the ball, matched that number of shots on goal and were more clinical. The result leaves Leicester in the League One table with points from games. They are points behind leaders Plymouth Argyle.

The team's focus now shifts to a key League One fixture at home to Peterborough United this Saturday. Peterborough currently sit in the table.
