Leicester City won a chaotic seven-goal encounter 4-3 away at Stockport County on Saturday. The victory, sealed by a quickfire second-half double, moves Russell Martin's side up to 18th in the League One standings on five points.
Emil Riis Jakobsen was the match-winner with two goals, while Liam Cullen and John Lundstram also found the net. The Foxes had to withstand a fierce Stockport fightback after establishing a commanding lead.
How the game unfolded
Leicester took the lead after eleven minutes. Louis Page drove forward and supplied Liam Cullen, who finished clinically. The advantage lasted just over ten minutes before Jack Diamond levelled for the hosts, firing home from Lewis Bate's pass.
Riis Jakobsen restored Leicester's lead on the half-hour mark with a powerful individual effort. He then doubled his tally three minutes after the restart, converting a cross from William Thomas-Alves. The game looked settled when John Lundstram headed in a Louis Page corner to make it 4-1 after 52 minutes.
Stockport refused to fold. Veteran midfielder Oliver Norwood pulled one back with a low strike five minutes later, and Kyle Wootton made it 4-3 just after the hour mark, setting up a frantic finale.
Martin's reaction
Manager Russell Martin acknowledged the defensive frailties but praised his team's attacking resolve. "We showed real character to get the goals we needed and then to see it out," he said. "We know we have to be better defensively, but the spirit to win a game like that on the road is massive for us."
Leicester made four late changes to see out the game, introducing Bobby Reid, Tom Watson, Olabade Aluko, Ilari Kangasniemi and Wes Burns. The result ends a run of two games without a win, following a draw with MK Dons and a heavy defeat to Oxford United.
League context and next up
The three points lift Leicester out of the relegation zone, though they remain seven points behind early leaders Sheffield Wednesday. Their goal difference also improved to minus three, having scored four and conceded seven so far this season.
Attention now turns to next Saturday's trip to face Barnsley, who sit 15th.
