Louis Page and Emil Riis were the standout performers as Leicester City secured a vital 4-3 victory over Stockport County. The win at the King Power Stadium on Saturday lifted the Foxes to 13th place in League One, now just five points behind leaders Sheffield Wednesday.
Page, the academy graduate midfielder, was instrumental in the attack. He provided two assists and delivered a series of dangerous set-pieces throughout the match. "Securing multiple assists, putting in strong corners, and showing exactly why we need him," Page said of his own contribution after the game.
Top performers
Riis matched Page's 9/10 rating with a clinical double. The Danish forward opened his account with a simple finish before adding a powerful second goal shortly after half-time. "Two goals, one simple, one powerful, and the Dane has illustrated his ability to convert from a small number of chances," was the assessment of his display.
Liam Cullen and John Lundstram, who both found the net, were graded at 7/10 for their solid shifts. Cullen opened the scoring in the 11th minute, converting a cross from Page, while Lundstram netted Leicester's fourth goal just after the break, also from a Page assist.
Mixed reviews in midfield and defence
A trio of players received a middling 6/10 score. Winger Will Alves, another academy product, provided the assist for Riis's second goal. Defenders Harry Souttar and Warren O'Hora had steady but unspectacular afternoons as Stockport managed to score three times.
Young midfielder Sammy Braybrooke and the collective group of substitutes were handed a 5/10 rating. The first change came in the 71st minute when Bobby De Cordova-Reid was introduced, but the bench failed to significantly alter the game's flow.
Struggles at the back
The lowest marks were reserved for the defensive unit. Right-back Jayden Joseph was given a 4/10 for a difficult outing. Goalkeeper Alex McCarthy's rating of 3/10 reflected a shaky performance between the posts. The poorest individual score went to defender Luke Thomas, an academy graduate who received a 2/10 after being frequently exposed.
Manager Russell Martin will be pleased with the three points but concerned by the three goals conceded. The result continues an inconsistent run of form for Leicester, whose last five results read WLWDL. They have scored eight goals but conceded ten in their six League One matches so far.
The victory provides momentum ahead of a key away trip to face Barnsley on September 19. Barnsley currently sit 18th in the table, making it a key opportunity for Leicester to build consistency.
