Leicester City will play a behind-closed-doors friendly next week to prepare for their return to League One action. Manager Russell Martin confirmed the plan as the club handles an extended international break.
Several senior players are away on international duty, leaving a group of players at the training ground. Those remaining will have a short break this week before returning to training. The friendly is scheduled for next week and is intended to sharpen the squad ahead of the trip to Stevenage.
Martin said the match would be a key part of their preparation and is arranged against strong opposition. He added that staff will use the break to assess what has gone well and what must improve, with the aim of returning stronger. The unusual length of the break is due to FIFA combining international dates.
The squad heads into this period with positive momentum from a win in their last match. Admir Bristric scored a hat-trick in that match, with Bobby Reid providing assists and also scoring. Leicester currently have nine points from their games.
Martin emphasised that using the break effectively will be vital for the upcoming matches. The behind-closed-doors friendly is a huge part of that preparation for the matches ahead.
