Leicester City have signed experienced goalkeeper Dai Cornell on a one-year contract. The 35-year-old Welshman arrives as immediate cover following Jakub Stolarczyk's season-ending knee injury in early September.
Cornell brings extensive experience from across the English football pyramid. He has been on the books of 11 clubs, including Swansea City, Ipswich Town, Northampton Town and most recently Preston North End. The 1.80m tall keeper also represented Wales at under-21 level.
His signing addresses a critical shortage in the goalkeeping department. Alex McCarthy has been the most used keeper this season, with summer signing Franco Ravizzoli providing bench cover since Stolarczyk's setback. Cornell is expected to compete directly with Ravizzoli for the backup role.
Manager Russell Martin highlighted the attributes Cornell brings beyond his shot-stopping. "He understands the role he is going to fulfil here, but he also backs himself to show what a good goalkeeper he is," Martin said. Cornell himself stated he is keen to "help in any way" he can.
The move bolsters a squad sitting 13th in League One with 8 points from six games. Their recent form has been mixed, with a thrilling 4-3 win over Stockport County followed by a heavy defeat.
